When we had first planned this trip the intent was to bookend the trip by starting in Western Canada and ending in Eastern Canada. However, there really is no easy way to get from London to Newfoundland except via some crazy connections (via Calgary was the wildest one). The one we opted for was a London to Washington DC flight via one airline, and then from DC to Deer Lake via Montreal with a second airline with about a 20 hour layover in DC. With a 3pm flight out, we had the opportunity to do a quick tour of DC in the morning. It was really quick with us basically just walking the mall, so we’ll have to come back some day to do it in a little more depth.
We even had time to do a short but sweet stop at the Canadian Embassy to say hello to some of Julia’s co-workers who are posted there. It certainly feels like we are close to home!
