Our last full day in Scotland was in Edinburgh. We had tickets for the Edinburgh Castle in the afternoon so for the morning we decided to walk the Royal Mile which starts at the castle and ends at the palace.
Our first view of the castle from the bottom of the hill while we walked up to the Royal Mile.
Just up the road from where we are standing is the Grass Market street which leads up to the Royal Mile. It is full of colourful and unique shops. Harry Potter fans claim that this street was the inspiration for Diagon Alley.
A fun shop (for me) along that street.
Lots of swords, but Andúril (Aragorn’s sword from Lord of the Rings) and a set of Outlander swords looked pretty cool.
The church right by the castle was the start of the Royal Mile and the view down the street with lots of different stores.
Some unique buildings along the way.
Holyrood Palace at the end of the Royal Mile is still an active palace for the British monarchy.
After a snack we headed back to the castle for our tour.
The Royal Palace within the castle with the line for the Scottish Crown Jewels and then the World War I memorial. We weren’t allowed to take pictures in either building.
The Grand Hall, where you could take pictures and it was mostly setup as an armory. It was a sword day!
All in all a pretty cool city with lots to see and we felt like we just touched the surface.
